Praise & Thanksgiving : New Year Message
May I convey the best wishes for a happy New Year to our readers and friends from shalomindia.com family.

Giving praise to God helps us to understand just how awesome he really is! We should thank him for all that he has done.

Praise and Thanksgiving
The Lord's Prayer begins and ends with praise. Giving praise to God helps us to understand just how awesome He really is! We should praise Him for how powerful He is. We should praise Him for how giving He is. We should praise Him for how loving He is. We should thank Him for all that He has done, is doing and will do for us as His children. And the list goes on …

In the New Testament Paul tells of giving thanks to God:

"We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you, … and joyfully giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light. For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins." - Colossians 1:3,12-14

"For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers." - Ephesians 1:15-16

"Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God." - 2 Corinthians 1:3-4

We are actually commanded to give praise and thanksgiving to God:

"Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise - the fruit of lips that confess his name. And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased." - Hebrews 13:15-16

"Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus." - I Thessalonians 5:16-18

"Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, for our 'God is a consuming fire.'" - Hebrews 12:28-29

"Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." - Philippians 3:15

"I lift up my eyes to the hills--where does my help come
from? My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and
earth" (Psalm 121:1-2, NIV).

We're like "two birds that fly over our nation's deserts: One is
the hummingbird and the other is the vulture. The vultures
find the rotting meat of the desert, because that is what
they look for. They thrive on that diet. But hummingbirds
ignore the smelly flesh of dead animals. Instead, they look
for the colorful blossoms of desert plants. The vultures
live on what was. They live on the past. They fill
themselves with what is dead and gone. But hummingbirds
live on what is. They seek new life. They fill themselves
with freshness and life. Each bird finds what it is looking
for. We all do."¹

The same practice applies to people's view of God. If we
want to see him we can--everywhere we look. If we don't
want to see him, we won't. The fact remains, people see
exactly what they want to see, hear what they want to hear,
find what they want to find, and do what they want and
choose to do.

As Frederick Langbridge said, "Two men look out the same
prison bars; one sees mud and the other stars."

Suggested prayer: "Dear God, please help me to be honest
with myself and with you so that I will see more clearly
the truth as it is and not as I want it to be. And, while
not being blind to deception, help me to look for stars and
not for mud. Thank you for hearing and answering my prayer.
Gratefully, in Jesus' name, amen."

 "The LORD bless you and keep you;
the LORD make his face shine upon you
and be gracious to you;
the LORD turn his face toward you
and give you peace."

Always Give the World Your Best

People are illogical, unreasonable, and self-centered.
--- Love them anyway.

If you do good, people will accuse you of selfish ulterior motives.
--- Do good anyway.

If you are successful, you win false friends and true enemies.
--- Succeed anyway.

The good you do today will be forgotten tomorrow.
--- Do good anyway.

Honesty and frankness make you vulnerable.
--- Be honest and frank anyway.

The biggest men with the biggest ideas can be shot down by the smallest men with the smallest minds.
--- Think big anyway.

People favor underdogs, but follow top dogs.
--- Fight for a few underdogs anyway.

What you spend years building may be destroyed overnight.
--- Build anyway.

People really need help, but may attack you if you do help them.
--- Help them anyway.

Give the world the bet you have and you'll get kicked in the teeth.
--- Give the world the best you have anyway.

The Love That Conquers The World

The love for equals is a human thing--of friend for friend, brother for
brother. It is to love what is loving and lovely. The world smiles.

The love for the less fortunate is a beautiful thing--the love for those who
suffer, for those who are poor, the sick, the failures, the unlovely. This
is compassion, and it touches the heart of the world.

The love for the more fortunate is a rare thing--to love those who succeed
where we fail, to rejoice without envy with those who rejoice, the love of
the poor for the rich, of the black man for the white man. The world is
always bewildered by its saints.

And then there is the love for the enemy--love for the one who does not love
you but mocks, threatens, and inflicts pain. The torturer’s love for the
torturer. This is God's love. It conquers the world.

Frederick Buechner in his book: The Magnificent Defeat.
